Research Interests I have been involved in a variety of different projects, all with some degree of relevance to Networks and Computer Networking. Many of the research projects I have been involved in have lead to publications. Please see the publications page for a list of my current publications. FEAR My undergraduate dissertation, entitled "FEAR: Framework Enabling Application Response" involved the development of a middleware which allowed adapted network applications to monitor and respond to the amount of traffic flowing over the network. When traffic congestion was high, applications were then able to adapt their behaviour in order to reduce the absolute number of packets making their way onto the network, thus helping to reduce the congestion bottlenecks. Network Learning Objects (NLO) I became involved in the development of educational resources when working on the NLO project in 2005. This project, funded jointly by Saltire and the Higher Education Academy resulted in the development of two educational resources, both of which are used in the Computer Science undergraduate curriculum at the University of St Andrews. TCPView is used as an interactive resource, allowing students to learn the intricacies of the TCP protocol at their own pace. OSPF Routing had similar design principles, and aimed to provide a brief introduction to the OSPF Routing algorithm. |
